I completed Learn to Run 5k in September 2015 and ‘quickly’ 😉 progressed to ParkRun and on to 10k’s, finishing the Brighton Brooks in 1 hour 6 minutes.
In January 2016, in a fit of over enthusiasm, I signed up for Hellrunner… 10 miles of hell IS the best way to describe it! Longmoor Military training camp, early Saturday morning. -5c… what could be better?! The first 5 miles went well as we battled deep mud and freezing water, then came the ‘Bog of Doom’, a stretch of neck-deep freezing water and a true test of our determination. After a gruelling 3.5 hours, I had accomplished one of the hardest and most rewarding things I have ever done. If anyone had told me that I would be doing this last year, I would have said ‘hell no’ you must be mad, but today I can smile and proudly display my finishers medal.
Since then I have completed many more 10k runs, knocking four minutes off my personal best time and I am looking forward to getting this down even further and collecting more medals.
Running is part of my life now. As we all know ‘more running = more wine’ 😉
